My husband and I enjoy visiting my sister and her husband who moved to Asheville from Key West. It's a lovely city with a nice mix of hippy, urban, university town. I like the choice of wholefood places to grab a lunch or snack. Also, so many wonderful reasonably priced restaurants to try. We like Reziz and Doc Chey, try them next time you go back.
BTW, my other sister who lives in London works for a philosophy school. How far is Tennessee to Asheville? We'd love her to retire in USA but she needs to be close to a philosophy school.
My corner of Tennessee is five hours away, but the Tennessee-Carolina border is just about an hour west of Asheville through the mountain pass. Not sure if there are any suitable "philosophy schools" there, but I had a pleasant year in the philosophy department at East Tennessee State in Johnson City, in 1992-3. Good luck to your sister!
